Using numbing cream with the Dr. Pen™ microneedling device is optional, as the treatment is typically safe and relatively pain-free. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and for shallow punctures, numbing cream is often unnecessary. However, if you prefer to use one, over-the-counter numbing creams with at least 5% Lidocaine are available at most drugstores.
To apply, spread a thick layer of numbing cream (about 2mm) over the treatment area, massaging it in thoroughly. Cover the area with cling film to keep the cream from drying out and to enhance its effect through heat. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes.
When you're ready to start, remove the cling film and wipe away the cream with a paper towel. It’s essential to cleanse the skin well to remove all residue, using a solution of 60% alcohol and purified water or 0.1% chlorhexidine to ensure no cream remains. This final step is crucial to prevent any numbing cream from entering the microchannels created during microneedling.
After this, you're all set for a comfortable, pain-free microneedling session!
